This image shows NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander's solar panel and the lander's Robotic Arm with a sample in the scoop. The image was taken by the lander's Surface Stereo Imager looking west during Phoenix's Sol 16 (June 10, 2008), or the 16th Martian day after landing. The image was taken just before the sample was delivered to the Optical Microscope.

Last Chances To Visit The Science Operations Center

August 19, 2008 -- August 20 and 23 will be the last days for the summer open house visits at the Science Operations Center in Tucson. Surface operations for NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander are conducted at the Science Operations Center, and this is the public's last chance to get a closer look at the mission.

A reservation for a one-hour tour can be made by going to the Phoenix tour page. Families, individuals, and groups are welcome. In general, due to the nature of the facility and mission, visits are not suitable for children under age five.

Each tour consists of an overview and update of the mission, with time for questions and answers. Guests will also have time to explore the interactive exhibits and activities in the Payload Interoperability Testbed, where the engineering model of Phoenix is on display.
